This is Thich Minh Huu.

This is our conversation.

Me

I’m with my children this weekend at their house! It is in the mountains. The weather is beautiful.

Thay

Me

I like that Buddha!

Thay

Yes it is peaceful.
Thanks 🙏
We have the way
We will be happy

 Me

Conditioned things are perishable;
with vigilance strive to succeed

Thay

Pali sutras.

Me

yes 🙂 but Buddha also said “because of the conditioned, the unconditioned exists”
Samsara / Nirvana are together 🙂

Thay

Yes. Like the Diamond Sutra.

Me

I keep reading Pali Suttas and i keep seeing that the Mahayana teachings are there.
Theravada and Mahayana go together, too!
It is like Thich Nhat Hanh’s teaching.
He brings them together very well.
And, yeah! The Diamond Sutra is sooo beautiful!

Thay

Yes.
We like two ways.

We will do it.
Nirvana.

This is also like the Heart Sutra.
🕉👌

Me

When our Buddha died,
he said that his teachings will be the guide for us.
He also taught that all things are impermanent and that they lack a isolated, self-created, self-sustaining “self”.
All conditioned things are subject to change.
The conditioned expressions of the Buddha’s teaching will evolve over time!
Dharmakaya is alive! 🙂
The teaching evolves with the people so that it can actually bring benefit!

Only dead things don’t change.
Living things evolve and grow.
Dharmakaya is alive.

Thay

Yes dharma is constantly transforming.
No birth , no death!

Me

☸☸☸
I love it!

Thay

From the Heart Sutra.

Me

Yeah, I am thinking of the Heart Sutra, too.

Interdependence!

Thay

If you miss Buddha, call on Buddha for peace of mind.
Buddha will help us and all other living beings.

Me

I meet some Theravada people who believe that they have the ‘real’ teachings of Buddha, and some of them assert that all other teachings are imaginary.
Still, I don’t care :), I like the Diamond Sutra: “Buddha teaches no method.”

Heart Sutra: “gone beyond.”

Thay

Yes.
This is the right way.
But, some method is important to the way.

Me

I think you are right. Method is useful!
I have to control my anger, always.

Thay

Yes.
Oh! You payed your karmic debt.
You will be lucky again.

Me

Yeah. Anger is not good.

Thay

Practice mindfulness.

Me

Yeah.

I am homeless but my friends help me.
I am patient tho, things will change.

Thay

Me too.
I am homeless.
Homeless is Buddha.

Me

Do you know the Pali Sutta: “Fruits of the Homeless life” ?
And yeah! You are homeless! You are a lucky monk!

Sramana!

Thay

No, I don’t know that Sutta.
But a monk is ‘homeless’.

Me

Yeah, you are a ‘Sramana’ 🙂

Thay

Yes.
We practice Buddha’s teaching for freedom!

Me

Sramana: Tăng sĩ—Buddhist monk.
1)      Xuất gia ly dục:  Who have left their families and forsaken all the passions.
2)      Không còn bị ngoại trần lôi cuốn:  Who are uncontaminated by outward attractions.
3)      Thương xót chúng sanh mọi loài và không còn uế trược: Who are merciful to all and impure to none.
4)      Không còn quá vui vì hạnh phúc hay quá buồn vì khổ đau: Who are not elated by joy nor harrowed by distress.
5)      Kham nhẫn chịu đựng bất cứ thứ gì có thể xãy đến: Who are able to bear whatever may come.

Thay

This is right! It is correct Dharma!

Me

Sameness (n) of birth, death and nirvana: See Sanh Tử Niết Bàn Bình Đẳng.
the sutra on the fruits of the homeless life is also called: Samaññaphala Sutta

Thay

Yes ! Suputi ! Tu Be De
Oh, good! I’m always happy to learn more!

Me

But, what am I if I am not recognized by any tradition, but I am homeless and practice sila, wisdom, and concentration?
I am not a monk of any tradition, but i follow the Buddha’s teaching closely.
Sometimes, I feel alone. 🙂

Thay

Foundation:
We can become Buddha.
Buddha teaching:
Practice Right Action.

Me

Yes, and I will keep paying for my past wrong action (karma),
and I will keep practicing patience through hard times

Thay

Four people are people are considered students of Buddha
Man , woman , monk, nun.
Yes ! We have the path.

Me

I see

Thay

See the way.

Me

I am not a very good ‘householder’. Not a good Upāsaka 🙂

Me

I’m not good at making money. Not good at business 🙂 I don’t like money.

Americans are addicted to wealth.

Thay

You are my good friend.

Me

You are my good friend! I appreciate you!
I appreciate Buddha’s teaching and I appreciate your practice of budBha’s teaching

Thay

We let go of Buddha’s teaching.

Me

The teaching is a raft. It will be left behind when it is no longer useful.

Thay
